The idea of traveling around the world raises a lot of questions. To make it easy for you I collected the most important questions and answers and assembled them in this category.
„Aren’t you afraid or have any doubts at all?“
I often hear that question when I’m telling people about our round-the-world trip. My clear answer to that question is „No!“. But I keep on thinking about why people even ask that question. Am I taking that decision too lightly? Should I be afraid or have doubts?
Many people ask us if we’re buying a round-the-world ticket (rtw ticket) for our trip. We can answer that question with a definite „No“ – after a detailed research we chose to go with one-way tickets. For us a rtw ticket has more cons than pros. But it always depends on your individual needs – sometimes it can make sense to buy a rtw ticket.
„How will our families and friends react?“
That was the questions we asked ourselves shortly after deciding to really make that trip. I had all kinds of scenarios in mind – from crows over tearing up to preachments. I was sure that my sister would start crying and my to-be father-in-law would give us a lecture on not to quit our jobs and apartments and leave everything behind. But it wasn’t that bad. We found a good tactic to tell everybody about our intention. Because if you start the conversation by saying „we have to tell you something…“ everybody thinks the woman is pregnant. And when that topic is no longer an issue it’s not the badest thing that we will go away to travel the world.
But of course there were a lot of questions. In part they were comprehensible, in part they were kind of absurd. I wrote down the frequently asked questions. Maybe that will help you to prepare for the endless hours of questions and answers.
Many of you may ask themselves when the time would be right for a trip around the world. To answer that question beforehand: there is no right time. But I’m sure you thought so anyway, right?

I had quit my Job a couple weeks ago and wanted to use the vacation to recharge my batteries and get motivated for finding a new job. When we talked about the upcoming vacation one night and decided not to plan too much in advance, Patrick suddenly came up with this quotation. And then one thing led to another. In the course of the evening we didn’t only talk about planning our three weeks in Thailand. We talked about a much longer trip – once around the world.
